AnewAmerica Community Corporation will host its annual Microbusiness Expo and Celebration at the Kaiser Center Roof Garden on Thursday, August 14th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The event will be a festive celebration of AnewAmerica’s entrepreneurs, loyal sponsors, and dedicated community members. AnewAmerica provides training and technical assistance to targeted communities for economic and social empowerment through a focus on green entrepreneurship, asset building, social responsibility and civic engagement. As a result of the program, participants start businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the economic growth and social capital of their communities. The Microbusiness Expo provides a chance for these entrepreneurs to share their accomplishments with the wider world.

Patricia Romero and Jaime Camacho of My Little Bunnies Spanish Immersion Program Home Daycare are being honored with AnewAmerica’s Green Business of the Year Award. This annual award is given to an entrepreneur who has taken exemplary strides to green their business practices and services.

Originally from Colombia, Patricia immigrated to the U.S. after applying for political asylum to pursue better opportunities for her and her family. She initially worked as a teacher at a bilingual child care center. With her experience and her passion for children, Patricia enrolled in and completed AnewAmerica’s Business Incubator Program in July 2012. She then opened My Little Bunnies, a bilingual and green daycare in Sunnyvale, California. Since opening her business, the business has created jobs, and the daycare is now at full capacity.

Through AnewAmerica’s Healthy Roots Program, My Little Bunnies has incorporated edible organic gardens into its curriculum – growing them, educating children and parents on their benefits, and increasing awareness about sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and protection of the environment. My Little Bunnies is an AnewAmerica Green Certified Business. The business recycles and reuses materials, conserves energy and water use through energy-efficient equipment, and uses products that are non-toxic and made from recycled materials.

AnewAmerica Community Corporation is a 501(c)(3) regional nonprofit organization, a designated Small Business Administration Women’s Business Center, and a Community Development Entity (CDE). Since 1999, AnewAmerica has served 19,562 individuals and counting. Its program has resulted in the creation of over 632 sustainable jobs with over 60% of clients still in business after three years.
