Advanta IRA Hosts Nationwide Webinar: Alternative Investments and Strategies in Self-Directed IRAs

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) November 12, 2014

Self-direction is popular with investors who want to control their own funds and make their own investing decisions to build wealth for retirement. “Self-directed IRAs and other accounts are unique in that the plan owners control which assets to acquire based on their own knowledge and understanding of the investment,” says Jack Callahan, managing partner of Advanta IRA Administration in Georgia and Advanta IRA Services in Florida.

These plans do allow traditional assets, but the most attractive feature of self-direction is the incredibly large pool of alternative investments available to plan owners. “The freedom and flexibility to choose from a wider variety of assets provides critical diversity in retirement portfolios and can potentially increase the gains in these accounts at a faster pace than more traditional methods,” says Callahan. The key is that investors are allowed to invest in things they are familiar with—in hopes to increase the odds of successful returns on investments.

A few popular examples of alternative investments include:

Real estate (single and multi-family homes, commercial property, raw land)

Private lending (notes and mortgages)

Oil and gas options

Precious metals

LLCs, LLPs, and trusts

Private placements and private stock

Foreign currency exchange and futures trading

And much more…

In addition to a nearly unlimited number of investment choices, there are several different accounts that can be self-directed:

Traditional and Roth IRAs

SEP and SIMPLE plans

Individual or Solo 401(k) accounts

Health and education savings plans
